About
I refuse to be typecast although its inevitable. My direction is where my mind takes me. So my topics are miscellaneous. I am writing from the vantage point of a 20-something Somali that lives in North America. That’s life, belonging to a large diasporic community; we travel and seem to be dispersed everywhere. Yah to room and board thanks to the courtesy of family and friends from Djbouti to Denmark.

Very unique perspective you got her. So how do you think your identity as a young Somali person living in a western society help shape your perspective on culture and how are ou balancing thr multiple identity that you are blessed to have?
I don’t find it very unique, but quite typical of the experience of Somalis in the diaspora. I was once told by an elder that I am not Somali but I am Somali at the same time. I guess that’s the experience of the second-generation.I call it neither here nor there. My identity is an amalgamation of east meets west. I also find myself playing identity politics when it suits me. I could write an article dedicated exclusively on this subject but I will save it for another time.
